Search Cole County Inmate Records

Cole County inmate records start with the public jail roster for adults held in county custody. A Cole County jail roster search can help confirm whether someone is currently booked, what charge and bond data appear in the jail record, and which agency made the arrest. The county roster is only one channel. Sentenced state prisoners, federal inmates, immigration detainees, released people, and older booking records may require Missouri DOC, BOP, ICE, VINELink, court records, a phone call, or a Sunshine Law request instead.

Cole County Jail Roster Overview

The official Cole County Inmate Search Portal is the first place to look for an adult booked into the Cole County Detention Center. It is free, public, and does not require a login. The roster displayed 206 inmates when inspected on June 19, 2026, and it is built as a current roster rather than a public archive of past bookings. Entries appear on the search results page itself, so a search result can show the booking image, name, booking number, charges, bond, agency, dates, and custody days without a separate profile click.

The roster should be read as a jail custody record, not as a final court record. It covers people held at the Cole County Detention Center after arrest by the sheriff, Jefferson City Police Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, municipal officers, warrant officers, or another agency accepted into county custody. It does not list juveniles held through the Prenger Center, sentenced Missouri prison residents at Algoa or Jefferson City Correctional Center, discharged DOC offenders, federal inmates in BOP custody, or immigration detainees who are not physically listed in Cole County custody.

The official roster page screenshot from Cole County's inmate search portal shows the name and booking-number search controls next to current roster entries.

That layout matters because the public record is compact. A user can scan the charge lines, bond field, and arresting agency from the results page, but court dates and housing details are not part of the public listing.

Use the Cole County Roster

The fastest route is the sheriff-linked roster at inmate.colecounty.org. Start broad if the spelling is uncertain, then narrow the result with a booking number if one is known. The advanced roster links sort entries by newest or oldest booking order, which helps when a person was just arrested or when a long-stay detainee may be buried below new intake records.

  1. Open the official inmate search portal from the sheriff page or enter the roster URL directly.
  2. Use the Name field for a full or partial name. Avoid over-narrowing when a middle name, suffix, or spelling could vary.
  3. Use Booking Number when known. Observed examples use a capital B followed by a long numeric sequence, such as B26000001745.
  4. Click Find, then read the entry image, booking number, charges, total bond, arresting agency, arrest date, booking date, age, sex, race, and days in custody.
  5. Use Sort Newest to Oldest for recent bookings and Sort Oldest to Newest for long-stay custody checks.
  6. If no record appears, call the jail, check Missouri DOC, search BOP or ICE when federal custody is possible, use VINELink, or request records under Missouri Sunshine Law.

Note: A same-day booking can appear quickly, but no official refresh interval was published by Cole County.

Cole County Roster Search Fields

The Cole County roster uses a small field set. That makes it easy to search, but it also means the user has to try alternate spellings and external systems when the jail roster is silent. Booking numbers are useful when a family member, attorney, bond agent, or court document already has the jail identifier.

Recent entries can show a real booking photo or a placeholder, so a missing image should not be treated as proof that the person is not booked.

Cole County Inmate Record Fields

A Cole County roster entry is a compact jail listing. It identifies the person, the booking, the agency, and the charge lines, but it does not publish sensitive identifiers or internal jail placement. That distinction is important. The roster can help answer whether the person is in custody and what bond is currently shown, while Case.net and the Cole County Circuit Court show formal court charges and later case activity.

FieldWhat It Shows
Mugshot or placeholderA booking image when available, usually from the inmatephotos path, or a generic placeholder for some new entries.
NameLast, first, and middle name or initial in the listing header.
Booking NumberThe jail booking identifier for the current custody event.
ChargesAgency or holder, bond type, statute or ordinance code, charge text, classification marker, and amount when entered.
Total BondThe aggregate bond figure shown for the roster entry, often zero for no-bond or hold records.
Arresting AgencyThe agency tied to the booking, such as the sheriff, Jefferson City Police, or Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Arrest and Booking DatesCompact date and time values for arrest and jail intake.
Age, Sex, RaceLimited demographic fields. Full date of birth and address are not shown.
Days in CustodyThe number of days held on the current booking.

The public listing does not show housing unit, pod, full date of birth, address, phone number, medical details, projected release date, court date, or a clickable court case number. For charge changes, pleas, dismissals, or sentencing, use Cole County Circuit Court records instead of relying only on the jail line.

Cole County Custody Lookup Routes

One common search problem is using the right system for the wrong kind of custody. The Cole County roster covers county jail custody. The Missouri Department of Corrections Offender Search covers active DOC-supervised offenders, including state prison residents, probationers, and parolees. The BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 to present. The ICE Online Detainee Locator System is for immigration detention searches. Missouri VINELink can support custody status notifications.

Cole County Jail Facilities

The adult jail contact for Cole County inmate records is the Cole County Detention Center. Other detention facilities in the county serve different populations, so they should not all be searched through the same roster. The Juvenile Division Prenger Center is tied to juvenile court services and is not an adult public roster facility. Algoa Correctional Center and Jefferson City Correctional Center are Missouri DOC prisons for sentenced residents.

Cole County Booking Process

A Cole County booking starts after an arrest by the sheriff, Jefferson City Police, Missouri State Highway Patrol, a municipal agency, a warrant officer, or another authorized officer. If the person is accepted into adult county custody, intake creates the booking number, property record, identity checks, fingerprints, booking photo, medical screening, and initial classification. The jail page says the detention center books more than 6,000 people a year and provides contracted medical care, with a nurse on duty 10 hours a day, seven days a week, and doctors on call.

Charges and holds are entered into jail records after intake. A roster charge can include the agency or holder, bond type, statute or ordinance code, description, classification marker, and amount. A first court appearance or later prosecutor filing can change the legal picture, so a jail charge should not be read as a conviction. For formal charges and docket activity after a booking, use Cole County court records after jail arrest.

Cole County Visitation Schedule

Family and friend visits for the Cole County Detention Center use HomeWAV video visitation. Visitors register through the county video visitation page and HomeWAV, wait for approval, then schedule visits after approval. The county says approval takes one business day. People on probation or parole, people with active warrants, and current victims attempting to visit their offenders will not be approved.

Contact and Records Fallbacks

If the roster is down, incomplete, or no longer shows the person, call the Cole County Jail at 573-635-7070 for custody questions. Sheriff John P. Wheeler's main office at 350 E High Street in Jefferson City can route broader records, warrants, and civil process questions through 573-634-9160. The official staff directory lists Captain Tim Harlin for the Jail Division. No dedicated online Sunshine request portal was located in the sheriff and jail pages reviewed, so older booking records, released-inmate information, incident records, and booking photos may require a mail, phone, or in-person Missouri Sunshine Law request to the sheriff or the originating arresting agency.

Cole County also points users to MobilePatrol. The sheriff page says the free app is available through Apple App Store and Google Play, and users should select the Cole County Sheriff's Office. The local page specifically mentions Detention Center information and victim notification information. Do not assume an app-only warrant search exists unless the app itself verifies it for Cole County.

Cole County Commissary Funds

After a roster search confirms custody, commissary and phone funds can be handled through the county's published deposit channels. The official Cole County commissary page lists a lobby kiosk, online deposits, phone deposits, and mailed money orders. Mail and money order format uses Cole County Jail, inmate name, P.O. Box 426, Jefferson City, MO 65102-0426. Money orders sent by mail require the inmate to request a mail exception before receipt.
